Pennsylvania's new budget includes the largest education funding increase in the state's history.

Governor Tom Wolf announced Wednesday, $100 million will be used to help fund the 100 poorest school districts in the commonwealth.

It's part of what he calls the new "Level Up" initiative.

Several schools in the Shenango valley are part of that 100.
They include: Farrell, Greenville, Mercer, New Castle and Sharon school districts.

"I've visited many of those underfunded schools, and it is clear that our funding doesn't treat every student the same. Every student deserves a chance to learn, and Level Up will help give them that chance," said Gov. Wolf.

No word yet on exact figures our local schools would get.

The new state budget also includes an extra $50 million to help fund special education programs in schools and an extra $30 million for early education.
