GIRARD, Ohio - A teen in Girard is honoring veterans who have served our country and first responders who serve our communities.
Dante Byrne a senior and Class President at Girard High School is busy with football, the robotics team, organizing food drives and he's in leadership positions in about a dozen organizations.
Along with preparing for his future, Byrne has taken on another project as a way to say thank you to veterans, police, and firefighters.
Knightline Embroidery worked with his idea to show support and came up with a design for a yard sign.
Byrne had 50-yard signs printed so others in the community could join and show their support for veterans and first responders.
So far he has sold over 250-yard signs and support is growing.
Byrne explained, "I am so grateful I have a free country to do what I want to do. Coming from a family of veterans I understand their sacrifice, and police go out there and risk their lives for us every day, and firefighters as well, go into buildings on fire and they help us out however they can. I wanted to give back to them. I wanted to show my support and my respect."
He made a poster with relatives who have honorably served our country, including his mom Lia, his dad Gordon, his grandfathers Robert Byrne and Sam Pagano, along with uncles and a cousin.
Byrne tells WFMJ news he can not reach out to all veterans and first responders personally but he can show support with a yard sign.
You can order a sign by going to his Facebook site, FLAGS4HEROES and following the steps for the Google order form on that site.
People can also pick up order forms at Knightline Embroidery and Dineen's Jewelry and Gifts in Girard, or at Veteran's Outreach in Liberty.
The cost is $10 a sign, $16 if you want it mailed to you in the U.S.
