Mother of teen murder victim speaks out
The man accused of murdering 17 year old Reshaud Biggs Jr. was arraigned in court today.
Carlos Flores Jr. was charged with murder and given a 1 million dollar bond.
The mother of the victim, Kristin Biggs, is calling for more action in the justice system.
Shooting violence has been plaguing the city of Youngstown but Biggs' mother says no more.
"It's happening so much, my son was the seventeenth murder. that's ridiculous, you know," said Kristin Biggs. "We have to do more," she said.
Biggs tells 21 News she won't let her voice go unheard. She plans to speak out until something changes with the violence in Youngstown and she also believes that officials should be doing more to help at-risk teens.
"I'm sick to my stomach that what happened to my son," said Biggs. "You know, I am and it's truly unfortunate but it's not gonna, I'm not stopping here. I'm not because this could have been prevented if we took more action," she said.
Three months ago, Flores was charged with carrying a concealed weapon but was released on bond.
Biggs says bond shouldn't have been an option back then and maybe her son would still be alive today.
"We're not doing enough. So now this boy get out on bond and he kill my son. I'm going to the courts and everything behind this," said Biggs.
She says a stop the violence protest is nice but things won't change without more action.
"We're just marching! I don't wanna march everyday. I wanna go into these kids homes, what's going on? We need to speak to these kids, to their parents," Biggs said.
Kristin is hoping for laws to be stricter to keep offenders behind bars.
