YOUNGSTOWN - The drive could be a little smoother in just over a year from now for more than 20,000 commuters who use some of Youngstown’s busiest roads each day.

Youngstown City Council this week is scheduled to consider a proposal to resurface two-and-half miles of Canfield Road and Market Street.

The project would also include new curbs and sidewalk ramps on a mile-and-a-half stretch of Canfield Road from Meridian Road to just west of Glenwood Avenue.

Similar improvements would be made for a nearly one-mile stretch of Market Street between Midlothian Boulevard and Indianola Avenue.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, about 8.200 cars and trucks use the stretch of Canfield Road each day.  ODOT traffic maps show 12,400 drivers travel that portion of Market Street daily.

The city’s $483,000 share of the $1.1 million projects would come from Youngstown’s $5 license plate fee.

The work would begin in March and be completed in October 2022.
