1996: Two prisons are under construction in Youngstown, a private facility off Youngstown-Hubbard Road and a state super-max on the city's Eastside, producing 400 construction jobs and the promise of hundreds of ongoing jobs in the future. 
 
Ferdinand Dalo Jr. of Sharon and Atty. Joseph P. Valentino and Austra Blaus, both of Hermitage, will be the honorees at the annual Buhl Day celebration.

Fifteen volunteer firefighters complete training classes required in their first year to bring the Struthers Fire Department to 31 qualified volunteers.
