HUBBARD, Ohio - The Hubbard community has been hit with a number of power outages over the last week.

Community members have reached out to 21 News regarding the issue and Hubbard Mayor Ben Kyle to address the problem.

One Hubbard resident told 21 News that power has gone out more in the last four months than in the past 10 years.

Mayor Ben Kyle said the city administration is just as frustrated as the community in a post on his Facebook page.

A FirstEnergy representative said the outages that occurred over the past two days were caused by heat-related equipment issues with the transmission line that feeds electricity to the city.

Inspections on the line are scheduled to take place over the next few days including using "thermovision" cameras to detect potential problems that cannot be seen during regular visual inspections.

"The infrared technology shows heat on a color scale, with brighter colors or "hot spots" indicating areas that could need repairs. These images can identify equipment issues such as loose connections, corrosion and load imbalances, and utility workers are able to make repairs to prevent potential power outages in the future," said FirstEnergy spokesperson Lauren Siburkis.

Siburkis says FirstEnergy had two other storm-related outages in Hubbard earlier in the summer and they do not have a history of service reliability issues within the city.

"The City owns and operates its own electric distribution system and we're unable to comment on any concerns regarding its service reliability," said Siburkis.

Mayor Kyle's post said city electric crews do not generate the power.
