What appears to be a Black Bear was spotted in Canfield over the weekend.

On Saturday, Morgan O'Brien shared the video of the bear on Facebook and said it was spotted in her driveway near the corner of State Route 62 and Leffingwell Road.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Black bear sightings have been increasing since the Division of Wildlife began tracking sightings in 1993.

In 2018, 191 sightings were reported in 45 counties.

In April, Austintown Police warned residents of a Black Bear that was spotted in the area.

ODNR says there are ways to bear-proof your backyard to prevent any potential interactions with the animal.

Removing bird feeders, moving trash cans and pet food inside or to a garage, and cleaning grease from grills are some ways to lessen the chance of encountering the bear.

Black bears are usually afraid of humans and attacks are rare. ODNR says bears do not attack children or pets as long as they are given space and are not cornered.

If you do encounter a bear, act calm and talk in a firm calm voice to let them know you are near. Keep space between yourself and the bear and back away slowly.

Black Bears tend to be most active early in the morning and late in the evening.
