HOWLAND TWP., Ohio - A family escaped from their burning home in Howland after someone knocked on their door.

Trumbull 9-1-1 received several calls just before 6 a.m. Wednesday that there was an "explosion" and that fire broke out in a garage attached to a home on the 200 block of Howland Wilson Road SE just south of East Market Street.

A woman who called 911, said she was driving past and saw the explosion.

"Get out of the house, get out of the house, get everybody out of the house," yelled the woman on the 9-1-1 call.

She went on to tell the dispatcher, "It looks like there is a mom, dad and some kids."

Dispatchers were told that the flames had spread to the home, destroying the structure.

After less than three minutes the caller said everyone was out of the home safely. The fire department arrived on scene moments later.

The woman who called 9-1-1 can be heard telling the children "it's okay" while they can be heard crying in the background. The woman then tells someone "don't go back in."

The caller invited the family and children to sit in her car.

The Red Cross has been contacted to help the residents find shelter and other needs.
