As the first week of the new year wraps up for the Youngstown City School District, some students and parents are still trying to cope with ways to get to and from school each day.

The school bus shortage 21 News first told you about on Tuesday continues.

School officials tell us three of the buses that were down the first day are back on the road, but the issue isn't fixed just yet.

Right now, nine of the 12 buses that were down Tuesday remain out of commission for now. In the meantime, drivers are still doubling up on routes - and they're also using shuttles and vans to pick up and drop off students

Fifteen of the district’s 83 buses were unavailable on the first day of school.

Denise Dick, a spokesperson for the district, said they were aware of the shortage heading into the school year and had made plans to borrow 12 buses from an outside provider, however that provider was only able to provide three, leading to the last-minute rush.

Bus drivers have also started doubling up on routes and will continue to do so until more buses are back on the road.

The district has ordered 20 new buses they expect to receive in October, with another 15-20 expected in the Spring.
