Youngstown City School District still down five buses, causing delays

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown City School District's school bus shortage continues as five buses are still out of commission.
A spokesperson for the district says they still have five buses down which is causing some students to be picked up late.
21 News first reported on September 7 that the district was without 15 of their 83 buses as the school year began.
Officials with the school district said they were aware of the shortage heading into the school year and had made plans to borrow 12 buses from an outside provider, however that provider was only able to provide three, leading to the last-minute rush.
The five buses that are still down are supposed to be inspected this week and then will hopefully return to the road.
In the meantime, drivers have been doubling up on routes.
YCSD spokeswoman Denise Dick told 21 News that buses are taking students on the same side of town to their school regardless of its location which is causing some delays.
The transportation department is in the process of contacting families to inform them of different times.
