HOWLAND TWP., Ohio - Valley Congressman Tim Ryan has canceled a press conference scheduled for Tuesday after announcing that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Ryan was to meet with labor and environmental leaders this afternoon to discuss a newly released National Resources Defense Council on the role of unions in addressing the climate crisis.’

Late Monday Ryan’s office sent an email announcing that the event had been canceled due to the congressman’s positive COVID-19 test.  A new date for the press conference has not yet been announced.

Ryan, who has announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, said the positive test came in on September 19, after testing negative 3 times in the past 10 days.

Saying he is experiencing mild symptoms Ryan says he is quarantining at his home in Howland and is following all safety precautions recommended by his doctor.

In a statement released on Monday, Ryan said he believes his symptoms could have been much worse if he had not received a vaccine.

The Associated Press reports that Ryan is among 80 members of congress who have contracted the disease since March of last year.
