Four candidates to fill two township trustee seats answer questions at a candidates forum

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -
At this candidates forum the two incumbents told folks experience and knowledge matters, as the township will be facing a cut of more than 2 million dollars a year in state funding.
Austintown Trustee Jim Davis cites his experience dealing with budgets and obtaining grants to help fund township services.
"Experience matters. I have a great grasp of this community, I'm in constant contact always answering phone calls and responding to the residents, so those relationships we've built with local business owners, the residents, that's what sets it all apart," said Trustee Davis who is running for re-election.
Austintown Trustee Ken Carano says his experience in economic development a business owner, state lawmaker, Plus organizing the successful effort to bring casino, racino revenue to the township are a few reasons voter should re-elect him.
"I spent 5, 7 days a week talking with individuals who need help either getting a license someplace, or who they can talk with about insurance or if they have a problem with things of that sort," said Trustee Carano who is running for re-election.
Monica Deavers who has owned and operated Charlies Family Restaurant for 11 years, and worked there 35 years also handles budgets during inflation. She adds her life of serving, and being a woman sets her apart and are a few reasons people should cast ballots for her. She has lived in Austintown for 45 years and told people at the forum she decided to serve the community after people were so good to her during the pandemic.
"I've always served people and talked to them. I think the communication between the businesses and showing them I can be there anytime and I would respond to them when needed, so I think that would help as being a businesswoman," said Deavers, a candidate for Trustee.
Robert Santos a retired Marine told residents his experience serving our country along with military experience make him the choice to deal with challenging budgets and inflation that Austintown will face providing all the needs for departments so they can continue the level and quality of service to meet peoples needs in the township.
"I gave to this country and I wanted to give back more, so I thought ... the best way I can see doing it is to become the next Austintown Trustee, where I can work day in and day out for everyone's needs, and actually improve their quality of life," said Santos, a candidate for Trustee.

Each candidate expressed they support equality for everyone. They also were asked and told folks about their contributions to promoting, volunteering, and helping make the township better.
After the candidates forum held by the Advocates for Austintown, there was a meet and greet where people were able to ask all four candidates for Austintown Trustee questions.
