Two Catholic churches in Campbell are closing their doors for good Sunday.

Saint Lucy and Saint Joseph the Provider are set to close as the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown consolidates to one church in the city.

Parishioners from the closing churches will attend mass at Saint John the Baptist.

The Diocese announced the closures in September, citing recommendations from finance councils and the 2019 Pastoral Plan of late Bishop George Murry as reasons for the move.

Bishop Murry's Pastoral Plan called for one worship site in Campbell.

The Diocese said in September that the move would strengthen parish viability in the face of an almost $850,000 debt.

“It is imperative that this matter be resolved for the good of the Church and that a Catholic community continues to exist in the City of Campbell. As your bishop, I am committed to Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, however, we have to live in reality and accept the fact that there can be only one worship site,” Bishop David Bonnar said in September.

The three churches merged back in 2012.

The closing masses for Saint Lucy and Saint Joseph the Provider were held on the weekend of November 21.
