YOUNGSTOWN - Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry recognized World AIDS Day Wednesday with a red ribbon display in Youngstown.

The Market Street Bridge was lit up red on Wednesday night to honor the day and the Ursuline Sisers' display was placed in the center of Youngstown on Federal Square. The arrangement consisted of 80 total red ribbons, with each one representing 10 people in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties who are currently living with HIV or AIDS.

"One of the most important things is we need to reduce the stigma and discrimination around HIV," said Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry President Bridgid Kennedy. "So that we can encourage people to get testing and treatment."

Kennedy said its important to get tested for the diseases, adding that they offer treatment at their clinic and that there are other resources in the Mahoning Valley too.

The day is marked to reflect upon those who lost their lives to HIV and AIDS and to honor the nearly 38 million people living with the diseases globally.

The presentation was followed by "A Walk of Remembrance" featuring a prayer and candlelight vigil from Federal Square to Wean Park.
