AKRON, Ohio - The future of Youngstown City School District CEO, Justin Jennings is still unclear, as Akron Public Schools tabled the decision on his potential new job with Akron Public Schools at their meeting Monday night over contract negotiations.

Akron Public Schools is currently in the process of voting to bring on Jennings as an assistant superintendent for the district. A school board member tabled discussion of the agenda item that was originally slated to vote on hiring Jennings three hours into the meeting.

"This consideration will continue to require negotiations as it relates to the salary benefits and contractual status," the board member said.

Youngstown City Schools' Board of Education said they were unaware that Jennings was looking for a new position with another school district.

Youngstown Board Curriculum Chairwoman Jackie Adair said that Jennings had not been transparent with the school board and would not view losing Jennings as a "huge loss."

Youngstown City Schools is actively undergoing a process to get out of academic distress and regain local control of the district. The improvement plan has been approved by the state of Ohio. The current CEO position Jennings holds would be eliminated under the proposal.

A date for a hearing on Jennings potential hiring at Akron Public Schools is unclear.

Their next scheduled board meeting is January 10, 2022, but the possibility of a special meeting exists.
