A student at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center MCCTC is one of five student Presidential Scholar Nominees - Career Tech Education Component in Ohio.

West Branch senior, Isabella Baird is one of five nominees in the state of Ohio. 

Baird is a senior in the Public Safety program at MCCTC. She's not only graduating from this prestigious program with a 3.9 GPA. She's determined to to continue this career path to serve others.

Baird is the National Technical Honors Society President, Council for Exceptional Children President, National Honors Society Member, Public Safety Class President, Peer Leader and Class Leader of Miracle Network Dance Marathon.

For years, Baird and her family have traveled to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic to help underserved populations with food and clothing. She also helps at Nina's Closet and Ohio Can collecting and distributing clothing and food to families in need.

Baird is beginning EMT classes at MCCTC in January and will move on to college in the fall. She has taken courses through Eastern Gateway Community College and will be close to an associate's degree upon high school graduation this year.

Baird says she's one of 12 siblings and the first to go to college in her family.

"It takes perseverance to accomplish what I have accomplished at my age, and I don't plan to stop any time soon," Baird said.

Baird will be honored on the Ohio ACTE website and receive an invitation to apply from the United States Department of Education where 20 career and technical students nationwide will be selected for national honors.
