Some students at Lakeview Elementary tossed their school books to the side to enjoy a Global School Play Day.

Instructors believe good old fashioned unstructured play will help their students be more creative and think critically.

"I think there's a feeling when we maybe expect children to grow up a little faster," said Scott Taylor, Elementary Principal at Lakeview Local Schools. "I think the teachers also see the students needing that outlet, a chance just to be a child," he said.

The students expressed the joy they felt with no school related responsibilities for the day, just good fun.

"It's really fun and my favorite part about it is how we get to play all day," said first grader Jacob Rosenberger.

Students brought their own toys to school to play with and share. They had everything from baby dolls to hand puppets and no limits to their young imaginations.

"My favorite thing was playing with my friend Avery and my doll," said first grader Olivia Tucker.

"This actually is my first global school day in a long time and I think it's just really fun because we don't have to do any school work," said first grader Sam Lawrence.

Although it's not something the district can do everyday, Principal Taylor tells 21 News he's glad they can allow their students one full day of play once a year.
