Several cows had to be rescued on Saturday night after the barn they were standing in collapsed around them.

Dozens of fire crews converged on the scene in Newton Falls after receiving reports of a barn's roof caving in. First responders got to the location on state route 534 shortly after 4 p.m. so they could free the animals.

Multiple messages were sent to emergency dispatch when callers in Newton Falls requested "chainsaws and man-power" to gain access the cows trapped inside.

The Newton Falls fire department alongside the other first responders were able to retrieve all of the cows from underneath the wreckage and debris.

Firefighters blamed the heavy rush of ice and snow that fell on the Mahoning Valley earlier this week for the roof collapse.

Officials urge community members to check their roof following the two recent winter storms. Newton Falls Fire Department Lt. Tom Teporcer said it might even be  necessary to hire a professional to evaluate your home.

Keep an eye on your roof," said Teporcer. "Have a qualified contractor inspect it if you suspect any type of damage."

Officials said nobody was hurt during the rescue mission.
