WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio -  A cold water rescue team was dispatched to rescue people from cars trapped along a flooded portion of Route 46 in Weathersfield Township.

At least two cars were stalled in high water near McKees lane and South Main Street at around 6 a.m.

One of the drivers escaped from a vehicle. Rescuers were still responding to a second car when they learned of two more vehicles stuck in high water.

One vehicle was completely submerged near Rupple Road.

Rescuers returned to the fire station shortly after 7 a.m. after determining that occupants were out of all of the cars.

Route 46 is shut down between McKees lane and Salt Springs Road overnight, but some vehicles drove beyond the barriers.

ODOT is being contacted to place larger digital "road closed" signs along Route 46 near the Mahoning County line.
