Gas prices in Northeast Ohio are up one cent from last week amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict according to AAA East Central.

The average gas price for the week of February 28 is $3.352 compared to last week's $3.344 and last year's $2.649.

AAA East Central says Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused major unease in the oil market with crude prices briefly spiking to $100 per barrel before dropping back into the mid $90 range.

According to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), total domestic gasoline stocks decreased by 600,000 barrels to 246.5 million barrels last week.

Meanwhile, demand for gasoline slightly rose from 8.57 million barrels per day to 8.66 million barrels per day. The increase in gas demand and decrease in total supply are contributing to the rising pump prices, but increasing oil prices are the main factor pushing gas prices higher.

The EIA expects pump prices to continue to climb as crude prices continue to do the same.
