The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown held a mass at St. Columba Cathedral to pray for peace in Ukraine and the people of Ukraine and Russia.

Bishop David Bonnar gave a homily where asking for people to lift their hearts to the people of Ukraine and Russia.

During his homily, Bishop Bonnar told the congregation that in times of war, loss and despair, the immaculate heart of Mary breeds hope.

The mass also marked the nine months before the birth of Jesus, known as the Feast of the Annunciation when the angel Gabriel told Mary that she would give birth to the son of God.

Mayor Tito Brown joined in special comments after communion and prayed for the act of consecration between Russia and Ukraine. Mayor Brown called on the congregation to continue to love the people of Ukraine and Russia as their own.

After Mayor Brown's comments, the Action of Mahoning Valley stood with Mayor Brown and Bishop Brown in their comments on Ukraine.

The mass ended after a prayer of consecration for Ukraine and Russia.
