Camp Garfield tells Trumbull County neighbors to expect explosions

Despite the potential for louder-than-normal booming noises in Trumbull County this week, there is nothing to be worried about.
The Ohio National Guard says they are planning to conduct training at Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center in Newton Falls on Wednesday and Thursday, April 6 and 7, that might increase the chance of blasts being heard by residents and businesses.
A release from the National Guard says the blast noises have the potential to be heard farther away than normal drills. Drills this week will be used to simulate real battle conditions for Army engineers, something the National Guard says is critically important for military readiness.
Nearby neighbors already heard increased explosions coming from the base during separate training in March.
