A Sebring woman remained in the Mahoning County jail on Tuesday following her arrest for allegedly neglecting three dogs.

Sebring Police arrested 19-year-old Meropi Ann Steve on Friday, charging her with seven counts of prohibitions concerning companion animals and two counts of evidence tampering.

Police say there were called to a home on West Maryland Avenue on May 3 to investigate a report that Steve had three dogs confined at the home without adequate food and water.

Inside the home, officers say they found an adult Great Dane that appeared to be malnourished, as well as a “severely malnourished” Dalmatian puppy and a Cane Corso puppy.

A humane agent came to the home the following day, seizing the Great Dane. However, the puppies had been removed from the home.

The agent was able to find both puppies at a home in Alliance.

All three dogs required emergency veterinary care, according to Police.

The seven animal charges are misdemeanors. The tampering charges are felonies.
