People living in Lawrence and Mercer counties could get a free license plate replacement if theirs is worn or hard-to-read.

Representative Parke Wentling announced the program through a partnership with the Jamestown Borough Police Department.

The free damaged license plate replacement event will be held Monday, July 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department (208 Depot Street).

A Jamestown officer will check plates and determine if a replacement is needed.

Drivers need to bring their Pennsylvania driver's license and current vehicle registration card.

The event is only for those with standard or eligible vanity plates. Special plates like those for veterans, zoos, college alumni and others can't be replaced at this event.

Drivers must register in advance to be eligible. To register, call the Conneaut Lake district office at 814-382-7200.
