NILES, Ohio - Niles Police are asking the public for their help in looking for a man who they say swiped over $12 thousand worth of jewelry from a store in the Eastwood Mall.

Police say surveillance video caught the man asking to see jewelry at the Zales store on Tuesday, June 21st. The man then grabbed at least two pair of large diamond earrings and fled the store.

The video caught him rushing out of a fire exit and into a recent model red Honda Civic.

"This was higher than what we normally would experience," said Niles Police Captain John Marshall. "It's not uncommon for us to experience more fraud based thefts, than just grab and run from the jewelry store."

Police tell us they believe there may be some connection to other recent jewelry thefts around northeast Ohio.

If you have any information on who the man is, you're asked to call Niles police at 330-652-9944.
