1997: A Trumbull County deputy is on administrative leave after shooting and wounding a Vernon Township man during a traffic stop in Johnston. Authorities say the 36-year-old man had cocaine and pointed a gun at the deputy. 
 
Mahoning County Sheriff Phil Chance says he'll open a substation on the Canfield Village Green.
