Juveniles arrested after allegedly starting multiple fires in Niles

NILES, Ohio - Niles police are investigating a number of reports of arson and vandalism.
According to the reports, the incidents happened between July 2nd and 4th at multiple locations in the city.
The first incident happened on July 2nd around 10 p.m. at the Niles Schools bus garage on Water Street. A worker there said he went outside to throw trash in the dumpster and found it engulfed in flames.
The worker told police two juveniles were outside with one of them being on top of a school bus with a fire extinguisher. They jumped on their bikes when he saw them and fled the scene.
The dumpster was heavily damaged and had paint burned off.
Another incident occurred on July 4th around 4:15 p.m. at the bus garage.
Police say a bus had several wires disconnected and flares were stolen from inside. The two juveniles got into the bus through the emergency hatch on the top. They allegedly also damaged the stop sign connected to the bus.
Just 30 minutes later, the Niles Fire Department was called out to 22 W Church Street which is the former Genesis Christian Center. Firefighters found a working fire at the vacant building and called NPD in for traffic control.
Niles officers received another arson call around 7:30 p.m. on July 4th. This time a dumpster was found on fire near businesses on Holford and Plant Street. Witnesses there told police they saw a juvenile set the fire before leaving on bikes with another juvenile.
According to the report, officers arrested two juveniles they believed to be involved in these incidents around 8:45 p.m. on July 4th. Police say they arrested juveniles are both males, an 11-year-old and a 12-year-old.
Reports say the arson and vandalism charges are both felonies.
