Area gas prices decline, down 22 cents this week

The good news this week is gas prices are continuing to decline, with the average price down 22 cents this week, according to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report. The average price in Northeast Ohio is now $4.376 per gallon. Prices are still considerably higher than one year ago, when prices averaged $3.087 per gallon.
Prices in the region range from Alliance at $4.145, Youngstown averaging $4.241 per gallon, and Niles at $4.327 per gallon. Chesterland, in Geauga County, is the highest in the region at $4.680 per gallon.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand dropped from 9.41 million barrels per day to 8.06 million barrels per day last week, while total domestic gas stocks increased by 5.8 million barrels. The decreased demand and declining oil prices have helped push pump prices down.
