The mother of a toddler living in a Howland motel has been charged with child endangering for a second time this month.

Howland Police say they cited 31-year-old Sharise Herlinger for child endangering Friday evening after a couple driving along East Market Street said they stopped a two-or-three-year-old child from crossing the street.

The couple says the child was wearing a tank top and diaper as he stood along East Market Street near the Capri Motel.

The couple said they pulled into a parking lot and managed to keep the child from crossing the street.

They told police they waited about five minutes until Sharise Herlinger came out of the motel.

Police say Herlinger told them she had been sleeping and her son must have walked out.

Herlinger pleaded not guilty to the charge in Warren Municipal Court on Monday.

On July 14, the Ohio State Highway Patrol cited Herlinger for child endangering as well as driving under the influence and speeding.

The judge has ordered that Herlinger have no unsupervised contact with children unless approved through Children Services and that the child remain with grandparents.
