Khuanrudee claims medalist honors as YSU wins women's golf opener

Fifth-year senior Puthita Khuanrudee earned medalist honors to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to a 28-stroke victory in the season-opening YSU Kickoff on Saturday at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
The Penguins fired a single-round team score of 290 to finish 28 strokes in front of runner-up Northern Kentucky. YSU's 290 ranks as the sixth-lowest 18-hole performance in program history. Niagara placed third with a 349; Mount Union finished fourth with a 360, and Thiel rounded out the five-team field with a 386. Six of the top seven players on the individual leaderboard were Penguins.
Khuanrudee carded a career-low, three-under-par 69 to earn medalist honors for the fourth time in her career. The fifth-year senior and three-time First-Team, All-Horizon League honoree recorded 12 pars, three birdies, and an eagle on No.1 to begin her round. Khaunrudee's 69 is tied for the ninth-lowest round in school history. She becomes just the fifth golfer in YSU history to record a sub-70 round.
In her first tournament as a Penguin, Tulsa transfer Titita Loudtragulngam placed second with a one-over-par 73 that featured 13 pars and two birdies. Madie Smithco and Christina Lewis each posted a single-round 74 to finish tied for third. Lewis finished with ten pars and three birdies, while Smithco recorded nine pars and four birdies.
Danae Rugola and Lizzie Saur each carded a single-round 78 to tie for fifth place. Rugola finished with eight pars and two birdies, while Saur posted six pars and four birdies.
In her first collegiate tournament, true freshman Adena Rugola tied for eighth with a single-round 79 that included eight pars and a pair of birdies. True freshman Chaela Barnett tied for 13th with a single-round 82 in her collegiate debut. Barnett finished the round with six pars and two birdies.
Youngstown State will return to action on Sept. 12-13 when it hosts the Roseann Schwartz Invitational at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, Ohio.
