A man accused of shooting and killing a pregnant woman in 2020 was sentenced Friday.

It took a Trumbull county jury just a few hours to find Kemari James, 29, guilty of all charges in that case.

Kemari James maintained his innocence right before sentencing when he spoke to the victim's family.

"I'm sorry about your lost children from my heart but I believe deep down in your heart and souls you know I didn't kill your daughter," said James.

James was found guilty on Oct. 6. for killing La'Nesha Workman and also for the attempted murder of Andre Haynes. Prosecutors say James meant to shoot Haynes but insted shot Workman.

When police found her body inside her Ogden Avenue north west home on April 17th 2020, her two other children were found nearby, crying.
This afternoon, the judge sentenced James to 32 year to life in prison.

"There's no way to bring back La'nesha and her unborn child. No sentence could bring her family closure or justice but I do feel that James spending the rest of his life in prison will at least keep future people in the streets awarn and the Trumbull county community safe," said assistant prosecutor, Chris Becker.

The defense says they plan to appeal.

"There are no winners today. We will take full advantage of our appellate rights," said attorney, Walter Madison.

\While James could technically be eligible for parole at some point, assistant prosecutor Becker says he believes James will die in prison for his crimes.
