Warren City Council is being asked to consider major projects that would impact travelers in the city.

Council member at-large Ken MacPherson has introduced legislation to make improvements to sidewalks and busy streets, as well as replace the pedestrian bridge over the Mahoning River in Packard Park.

Included in the legislation on Wednesday’s council agenda is the reconstruction and resurfacing of High Street from Mahoning Avenue to Chestnut Avenue.

Two of the projects would improve streets that lie east and west of Courthouse Square.

Under the legislation eight-tenths of a mile of Mahoning Ave. NW from South Street past Courthouse Square to railroad tracks just north of Summit Street would be resurfaced, as well as nearly two miles of Park Avenue from Fulton Street to Ivanhoe Street.

Replacement of sidewalks along what is described as “arterial streets” is also on the agenda.

The city would reach out to the Ohio Department of Transportation to help plan the projects.

Finally, long talked about plans to replace the 280-foot-long pedestrian bridge over the Mahoning River in Packard Park will be considered by council when it meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The bridge connecting Packard Park with Tod Avenue NW over the Mahoning River has been shut down since engineers found parts of the bridge had rusted through.
