Warren Family Mission experiences water line break, donation items damaged

WARREN, Ohio - The Warren Family Mission main offices are currently closed due to a water leak at 155 Tod Ave. NW.
Due to cold weather, a pipe burst on the third floor in the hygiene room and leaked through the walls and light fixtures to the second and first floor.
"We found out that there were puddles of water in our cafeteria," explained Dominic Mararri, Director of Public Relations for Warren Family Mission. "So, water was leaking from our light fixtures and it definitely was not a good scene to walk into."
The break happened on Christmas Day or on Monday, December 26. Employees found the mess on Tuesday morning.
The burst destroyed some of the paper hygiene products in the building. The water leaked into the clothing donation room as well.
"We're going to have to get a company in here to access the damage that was done to the drywall," Mararri added. "We have to get the boiler system operable on the third floor."
Paint jobs were just completed in some of the rooms days before Christmas.
According to the Warren Family Mission, the offices plan to re-open Wednesday and continue to accept donations of all kinds.
The Mission is now in need of personal hygiene products such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins and adult diapers.
"Those were a lot of the items that weren't able to be salvaged," Mararri said. "Some of the clothing wasn't able to be salvaged. It was just drenched."
The main building where the break happened does not house any clients, so the break didn't have an effect on how many people the Mission was able to assist. The break will be paid for with money from the Mission's budget.
"So, this is something that we will have to tap into our maintenance budget right at the beginning of the year," Mararri said. "And then basically hope and pray that nothing goes wrong with all of the other buildings."
