Over 1,200 warnings issued on first day of speed cameras in Youngstown school zones

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The City of Youngstown has just installed new speed cameras for school zones throughout the city on Tuesday, and in the first day alone over 1,200 drivers were caught speeding.
According to Lieutenant Robert Gentile of the Youngstown Police Department, a total of 1,218 drivers were caught speeding on Tuesday alone. These drivers can expect to receive a warning in the mail.
These speed cameras were installed at no cost to taxpayers in Youngstown, as the funding for them was generated solely by traffic citations issued throughout the city.
Warnings will be issued to drivers caught speeding on these cameras for one month, but after February 17, those warnings will turn into traffic citations.
The speed limit in school zones is reduced to 20 miles per hour during restricted hours. The restricted hours for each school will be posted on signs near the school zone.
