Police are investigating yet another reported shooting along Interstate 680 in Youngstown.

According to police, a car traveling south along 680 was fired upon just past the 7-11 connector after 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Police say the driver stopped the car and jumped out, scrambling to safety along Cherry Hill Avenue on the city’s West Side.

No one was injured.

Captain Jason Simon tells 21 News that they do have leads, however no arrests have been made.  According to the police report, the suspect was driving a small silver vehicle.

It is the third shooting incident along the interstate this year.

Captain Simon says despite this recent string of shootings, that people should not avoid traveling on the interstate.

"I understand the apprehension that the public has--we do believe the are targeted and they're going to be no matter where they are at.", Simon explained.

Early this past Sunday a 21-year-old man was wounded along the southbound lanes of I-680 near the Glenwood/Mahoning Avenue interchange. Police are questioning a man who dropped the victim off at the hospital.

In early January, a man and a woman, both 19-years old, died after the car they were in was riddled with bullets along 680 Northbound, just beyond the Salt Springs Road interchange.  Detectives are still investigating that shooting.

In the meantime, Simon says they'll be ramping up patrols on the interstate which will help ease concerns of commuters, along with expedite and future investigations on the main thoroughfare.  They are also exploring license plate-reading cameras.

"680 and its bridges, and on ramps, were already going to be a primary place where we would put these cameras, and options are still open for that.", Simon concluded
