Ohio first responders can register for rail response training sessions

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Division of the Ohio State Fire Marshal has announced on Wednesday that Ohio first responders can now register to attend rail response training sessions focusing on preparing for and responding to rail incidents involving hazardous materials.
The eight-hour training sessions begin March 21 at the new Norfolk Southern Rail Response Training Center in Bellvue, which was previously announced by Ohio Governor, Mike DeWine and Norfolk Southern last week.
First responders will receive instruction on a variety of topics related to safety and tactical response for rail emergencies including safety around the railroad, understanding rail shipping documents, tank car identifications and assessment, tank car valves and fittings, locomotive emergencies, responding to railroad emergencies, the AskRail mobile app and response strategies and tactics.
The free, hands-on classes will be conducted from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 13401, OH-4 in Bellvue. Lunch will be provided.
