Work is scheduled to begin on Monday on the fire escape in Youngstown City Hall.

According to a press release, Murphy contracting will mobilize Monday to begin sandblasting and prepping existing surfaces on the fire escape addressing all floors of City Hall. This process is expected to take about four weeks.

From there a structural engineer will conduct an inspection to identify areas of repair. This process will be completed approximately two weeks after the steel preparation work.

Structural steel repairs of the fire escape will commence based on the results of the inspection.

Egress doors will also be repaired and replaced as necessary at fire escape exits. Full repairs are estimated to be completed within 120 days.

Until fully repaired, occupancy limits will be a priority and the public will not be allowed to participate in public meetings in the City Hall Chambers in person. The public can still attend meetings virtually.
