Charges have been filed against a Pennsylvania trucker who told police he may have nodded off when his tractor-trailer struck and killed a man who was changing a tire on his car along Interstate 80 in Mercer County.

Bond was set at $25,000 during Thursday’s court hearing for 40-year-old Christopher McKee of Oakdale, Pennsylvania.

State Police say in a complaint that McKee was driving a tractor-trailer along I-80 in Wolf Creek Township early on the morning of July 31 when the truck ran into 23-year-old Daniel Leinen, of Michigan.

Leinen, who was in the process of changing the front, driver’s side tire of his Kia when he was struck, was found lying along the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

McKee called 9-1-1 and told a dispatcher that he may have nodded off slightly and may have killed someone.

Westbound I-80 was closed for several hours as police investigated the accident.

McKee is charged with homicide by vehicle,  careless driving, reckless driving, not driving at a safe speed, and violating a driver’s duty no to pass disabled vehicles in adjacent lanes.

A preliminary court hearing in the case is set for April 19.
