Austintown Police officers rescued a township woman being attacked by three Bullmastiffs in her own backyard.

Responding to calls from neighbors who heard a woman screaming behind a home on the 600 block of Wyndclift Circle Sunday night,  officers say they found a woman on the ground surrounded by three dogs, one with blood on its mouth.

The woman, covered in blood and mud, wasn’t moving.  Her clothing had been ripped off by the dogs, leaving her only in her underwear.

Police hopped a fence. While one of the officers held the dogs at bay with a taser, the other officers pulled the woman to the gate, which was padlocked.

One officer applied a tourniquet to the woman’s bleeding leg while another grabbed bolt cutters, removing the chain and padlock.

The 31-year-old Hubbard woman who was at her father’s home at the time was placed in an ambulance and taken to a hospital for wounds on her arms, lower body, and head.

According to the police report, two dogs are owned by the woman’s father.  A third dog is owned by a Youngstown man.

A neighbor told police he was roused by the woman’s screams and tried to ward off the dogs by shaking the metal fence. The neighbor said the dogs did not move away from the woman.

Another daughter of the homeowner arrived and put the dogs in the house.

The Mahoning County Dog Warden's office is investigating.
