A 62-year-old Howland Township woman faces abduction charges after a couple told police she held them against their will in her home for three days.

Anita Lach was arrested Wednesday evening after police from several agencies surrounded her Ridge Ave. SE home.

Police were called to the address after a 52-year-old Niles man called 9-1-1 claiming that Lach had been holding him and a 42-year-old Warren woman in her home for the previous three days.

According to a police report, although the alleged victims never saw a weapon, they said Lach had barricaded the exits to her home and told them she had guns locked up in a safe and would have a shoot-out with police if they tried to come into her house.

The 9-1-1 caller said he managed to make a phone call by telling Lach he needed to use a bathroom in the basement.

In addition to officers from Howland Township, police from Warren, Weathersfield, and Niles surrounded the home, evacuating neighbors from nearby homes.

Police say the man managed to slip out of the front door and the woman left the home through a sliding glass door in the back.

After learning that Lach was the only person left in the house, officers forced their way inside, handcuffing the woman.

The police report says no guns were found in the home.

Asked how they came to be in the home,  the Niles man told police that he met Lach when both of them were hospitalized recently and Lach asked him and his girlfriend if they were able to come over and do lawn and auto repair work.

After spending two days at the home, the man claims that Lach became hostile, telling the couple that they belonged to her now, and began holding them hostage for three days.

Lach was booked into the county jail on two abduction charges and police say there were warrants for her arrest on previous charges for allegedly assaulting officers and a paramedic, as well as charges of aggravated menacing filed by a neighbor.

A video arraignment is scheduled in Warren Municipal Court next week.
