Ohio & Mahoning Valley - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting that the amount of fatal crashes over Memorial Day weekend in 2023 has been the highest its seen since 2020.

According to a press release, 22 fatal crashes were reported over the weekend with a total of 23 fatalities resulting from them compared to 2020 when 20 people were killed in fatal crashes.

During the reporting period between Friday, May 26 and Monday, May 29, troopers across Ohio made 19,980 traffic enforcements including 399 OVI arrests, 233 drug arrests and 2,797 seatbelt violation citations.

A map shows a total of 632 incidents in Mahoning County, 544 in Trumbull County and 233 in Columbiana County. Columbiana County reported one fatal crash during this period in Center Township.
