The Ohio EPA is accepting applications for 2023 funding under the Diesel Mitigation Trust Fund, which grants funds to entities seeking to replace diesel-powered vehicles, according to a press release Friday.

Under the program, school buses, along with port, airport, and locomotive equipment are eligible to be replaced with electric or more eco-friendly alternatives.

Twenty-six counties are receiving priority to apply for the $7 million of funding, split into first and second priority groups. First priority counties center on the Cleveland area, including Lorain, Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Medina, Summit, and Portage counties. Stark, Trumbull, and Mahoning counties are each eligible under second-priority funding.

$3 million of the grant is allocated for replacing diesel school buses with electric ones, with the remainder being allocated for the replacement of diesel equipment used in ports, airports, and rail yards.

Successful grant applicants will receive between $50,000 and $2 million from the fund.
