Sentencing set in Warren child rape case
Prosecutors say a sentence of life in prison could be handed down after a jury returned a guilty verdict on three of four charges filed for the rape of a 9-year-old girl in Warren.
Shane Newton, 32, of Louise Lane was convicted of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition on Thursday.
Newton was secretly indicted by the Trumbull County Grand Jury on two counts of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition involving someone under the age of thirteen.
Arrested in late August, Newton is held in the Trumbull County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 27.
