Plea expected for driver in OVI crash that injured Leavittsburg couple
A Kentucky woman is expected to take a plea deal in a hearing next week in the a case that accuses her of rear-ending a van in Trumbull County, leaving a Leavittsburg couple seriously injured.
Josephine Steele, 53, has been in the Trumbull County Jail since her arrest in January, charged on two counts each of aggravated vehicular assault and OVI.
Currently, she's scheduled for a plea hearing next Thursday at noon.
Steele told a judge in July that she no longer wanted to suppress evidence in the case accusing her of rear-ending a van in Trumbull County, seriously injuring a Leavittsburg couple.
According to the crash report, Steele was driving an SUV that rear-ended a van on West Market Street in Warren Township on December 7. Police say there were no skid marks left by Steel’s SUV that would have indicated that she attempted to apply her brakes.
The couple in the van, 76-year-old Sharon Burrows and her 79-year-old husband William, were injured.
When 21 News spoke with the couple in January, William Burrows was still recovering from 4 fractures to his back and shoulder. After spending more than a month in an ICU, Burrows was moved to a long-term acute care facility.
The crash report says Steele wasn’t injured and refused to submit to testing for impaired driving.
