Judge rejects death penalty dismissal in Palm Sunday shootings case

Judge Ronald Rice has rejected a motion to dismiss the death penalty due to international law in the case of Kashaun Williams, whose been charged with aggravated murder and other felony accounts.
Williams indicted on capital murder charges, and could face the death penalty if convicted on charges related to two Palm Sunday shootings that hospitalized a woman and left one man dead.
He was also charged with felonious assault and having weapons under a disability.
Defense lawyers for Williams, 29, argued that the death penalty violated international laws that banned the death penalty. However, Rice rejected this argument.
According to court records, no bond was granted in the case because Williams is a threat to public safety, and he remains in Trumbull County Jail.
Williams has plead not guilty on all counts.
According to an affidavit, Williams has been convicted twice for felonious assault, a felony in the second degree and felony offenses of violence. He was also convicted of aggravated robbery when he was a juvenile. All of these past convictions bar him from legally obtaining a firearm.
Next, Williams will have a pretrial on Aug. 22, his final pretrial will be Oct. 17 and his trial be Oct. 30, according to court documents.
