The Federal Street improvement projects have slowed business at some of the downtown Youngstown restaurants.

“Construction has been affecting everyone downtown day to day pretty bad, so everyone's a little on edge,” Sophia Lacivita who works at The Federal said.

“The construction has definitely made an impact on us as a small business,” Grace Mccarty, a server at Gringos said.

But with thousands coming in for the Y-live concert on Saturday, they’re preparing for their restaurants to be packed once again.

“We're doing an open restaurant all day (11a.m.) until 2:30 a.m.,” Mccarty said at Gringos. “We’ll be doing food, drinks.”

Gringos is expecting so many people that they’re expanding their outdoor patio.

“Every time there's anything going on downtown there's a huge crowd, even our regulars still come in and it's just a really nice day,” Mccarty said. “We have a small team here but we’re definitely mighty.”

Other restaurants like The Federal have some hesitancy about if people will make the walk from the concert to the center of downtown.

“A lot of the detours are out, a lot of the roads are torn up,” Lacivita said. “We're really hoping people still come down to support before and after the concert and not just come directly to the concert and get dropped off.”

And are hoping a busy summer season continues even after the concert is over.

“We're just trying to get the word out that downtown is still open and ready for business. So, the big takeaway from this is not just an event night, we're open all the time,” she said.

Gringos is located at 26 N Phelps Street and will be open 11a.m. - 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Federal is located at 110 W Federal Street and is open 11a.m. - 11p.m on Saturday.
