Gas prices surge in Mahoning Valley due to oil cost increases

Gas prices are rising in the Valley once more due to a spike in oil costs.
This week, the average cost of a gallon of gasoline in the Valley is $3.506 per gallon compared to last week's $3.285 per gallon and last year's $3.909 per gallon.
According to a press release from AAA East Central the primary factor contributing to this uptick in gas prices is the surging cost of oil, which rose by nearly $4 within the past few days hovering at around $80 per barrel.
Due to extended repair timelines at refineries, lower refinery oil typically influence how much oil prices rise.
Additionally, the latest Energy Information Administration (EIA) data shows that gasoline demand has rose from 8.86 to 8.94 million barrels per day last week, while total domestic gasoline stocks dipped from 218.4 to 217.6 million barrels.
The EIA also reports that total domestic commercial crude inventories decreased by 600,000 barrels to 456.8 million barrels.
