Valley LGBTQ+ organization thanks the community for help in acquiring new transitional home

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - An LGBTQ+ organization in the Mahoning Valley focused on creating an inclusive center for members of the community is thanking the local community for helping it secure more than enough funding to open its doors.
Youngstown-based organization Full Spectrum Community Outreach says it's raised nearly $79,000 to open the new house for transitioning adults. Full Spectrum CEO, Tim Bortner tells 21 News this has been a five-year process.
"We have gone and looked at over 50 places all over the Valley. We have done the research, we have done the grant writing, we've done all of it. And now we officially have [the home] and it's so amazing, Bortner said.
A study from the University of Chicago shows that LGBTQ+ youth are more than twice as likely to face homelessness compared to non-LGBTQ+ youth.
"[Community members] said they wished they would have had this when they were growing up here and they said they wanted this to be important for the future," Bortner said.
The center is currently in need of donations of bedroom furniture items such as bedding, beds and more. The organization will be seeking companies to sponsor rooms by paying for everything that goes in the rooms.
The organization is not disclosing the location of the home due to safety concerns.
