Mineral Ridge man sentenced for voyeurism at Cortland grocery store

CORTLAND, Ohio - A Mineral Ridge man who was accused of following a woman around a Cortland grocery store while recording her movements on his phone has been sentenced after pleading guilty to one count of voyeurism.
Fifty-year-old Kirk Sackela, who entered the plea in Trumbull County Central District Court on Monday, was immediately sentenced to a week in jail and fined $250. He was also placed on probation for two years.
Having spent time in jail since his arrest, Sackela was released on Monday.
Sackela was charged late last month after a woman told Cortland Police that a man followed her throughout a store on South High Street, holding out his phone as if he were photographing her.
The woman said that after she saw the suspect was still hanging around as she went through the checkout, she went to customer service and had someone escort her to her car.
A store employee recorded the make, model, and license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle.
Police reviewed the store security video and said in their report that it looked as if the suspect was recording the woman on his phone, at one point placing the phone in a position possibly aimed up the woman’s shorts.
Detectives identified the suspect as Sackela and arrested him at a South High Street business.
