Renowned prop designer and Warren native, John Zabrucky was honored at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber's Salute to Business breakfast Thursday morning.

If you're a sci-fi fan, you've likely seen some of Zabrucky's props in action in movies like Ghostbusters, RoboCop, Star Trek, X-Men and many more. His work netted him the Valley Champion Award during Thursday morning's event.

21 News caught up with Zabrucky who tells us he studied under the wing of a well-known set designer in Switzerland before heading back to Los Angeles and eventually volunteered to help replace a broken prop on the set of a production.

Zabrucky tells us a woman who recruited him on the set of the production started out by having him build the props and renting them from him. Eventually, this turned into a company known as Modern Props Inc.

Various props from throughout Zabrucky's career were displayed at Thursday's event. 

According to the Los Angeles Times, Zabrucky announced the closure of Modern Props Inc. In January of 2020.
